The fine print, in plain English

Disclaimer

GenVerdict is a general-information guide for diagnosing home standby generator fault codes. It is not professional repair advice, and it doesn't replace your generator’s owner’s manual, the manufacturer’s support channels, or an authorized service dealer.

Every installation is different. The codes, causes, checks, and cost ranges on this site are based on manufacturer support articles, manufacturer diagnostic documentation, and published cost data — but your specific model, controller generation, firmware version, fuel system, and warranty status can change what's true for you. Where this site and your owner’s manual differ, your manual wins. Where any instruction here and a dealer’s judgment differ, the dealer standing in front of your machine wins.

Safety limits matter here more than on most sites. A standby generator combines lethal electrical voltage, pressurized fuel gas, a combustion engine, and carbon monoxide exhaust. This site will never ask you to open an automatic transfer switch, measure fuel pressure, adjust a gas regulator or gas piping, bypass or jumper a safety shutdown, test live voltage, or work inside an alternator — those jobs require trained professionals, and attempting them can kill you, injure others (including utility line workers, if a generator backfeeds), void your warranty, or destroy the equipment. If you smell gas, leave the area and call your gas supplier or emergency services from outside. Never run a generator in a garage or enclosed space.

Warranty: manufacturers and their certified technicians warn that repairs beyond basic checks can void warranty coverage. If your generator is under warranty, contact an authorized dealer before attempting repairs.

Cost figures are typical U.S. ranges at the time of writing (dealer visit data from Angi, September 2026; part pricing from published retail sources) and will vary by market, model, and dealer. Nothing here is financial advice.

By using this site, you accept that you inspect and work on your generator at your own risk, within the boundaries above, and that you will verify anything uncertain with an authorized dealer.
